■ Kota Takeuchi / "Blind Bombing+"
ARTS ISOZAKI is pleased to announce a solo exhibition by Kota Takeuchi entitled
"Blind Bombing +" from April 17 (Fri) to June 27 (Sat).
Takeuchi was born in 1982 and graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts in 2008
with a degree in Advanced Art Expression. Takeuchi's previous works include "Open Secret"
(2012, SNOW Contemporary, Tokyo), which highlights the awareness of the viewer of the
disaster and the self-consciousness of the anonymous artist as a proxy for a worker who suddenly
appeared on the monitor of a live camera in Fukushima nuclear power plant; "Sight Consuming
Shadow" (2013, Mori Museum, Fukushima), which traces memories carved into artifacts; "Eyes
on Hand" (2014, SNOW Contemporary, Tokyo), which captures the landscape of our hands (mobile
devices) acquiring information; and "Photographs turn stone monuments into mere stone,
but even so people take them." (2017, SNOW Contemporary, Tokyo), which shows the nature
of media and the nature of human memory by tracing a tour of stone monuments found in
books found in a library in Iwaki City in Fukushima .
In 2017, as part of the Asian Cultural Council's Japan-U.S. Arts Exchange Program,
Takeuchi spent about six months in the U.S. to visit former nuclear development facilities
and conduct research related to the U.S.-Japan War, creating a film entitled "Blind Bomb,
filmed by a Bat" about the history of balloon bombs dropped by the Japanese military from
1944 to the following year during World War II. In this exhibition, we will show the work
that was first shown at SNOWContemporary (Tokyo) in 2019 and has become a hot topic.
In addition, two new photographic works will be presented.
"The Blind Bomb, filmed a Bat" is a film based on in-depth fieldwork between Japan and the United States.
If you haven't seen this work before, this is your chance to see the exhibition "The Blind Bombing +"
